From Chloe, in the Asia region:
Asia Pacific is the most disaster-prone region in the world. This year, it felt like every other week there was a flood, earthquake, cyclone, heatwave or some sort of emergency happening in at least one of the countries we work in across Asia. This year, we are thankful for all the direct information we get when disasters strike. While mainstream media is busy reporting on death tolls and damage, we get to hear of our local partners and churches who are immediately diving into action – working on rescue efforts, assessing needs, providing shelter and essential support. We see and hear stories of great need and also great hope, resilience and perseverance in the midst of pain, loss and uncertainty.
From Loida, in the Latin America region:
We are deeply grateful to God for how he has strengthened and mobilised his church across Latin America this year. We have witnessed pastors, youth networks and entire congregations becoming centres of community transformation – responding to issues such as migration, gender-based violence, peacebuilding, environmental stewardship and fighting against corruption.
We thank God for clear answers to prayer:
- For the safety and resilience of churches and youth leaders working in high-risk areas.
- For the growth of young Christian environmental activists leading climate and Environmental and Economic Sustainability-related advocacy. One example of this was young activists joining the Tearfund team at COP30 this year.
- For the formation of the Latin American Christian Anti-Corruption Alliance, a powerful expression of unity for integrity and justice in the region.
We are also grateful for the doors God has opened for Tearfund and our partners to influence public conversations, form new strategic alliances, and bring faith-based perspectives into regional spaces such as the plastics treaty process and climate discussions.
From Lucie, in the West Africa region:
We thank God for his provision and for the opportunity to work with new partners in Mali, Burkina Faso and Chad. We pray for wisdom and divine strategy in using these resources to bring the desired result and reflect God’s love.
We also thank God for prayers answered in Mali where there was a major fuel crisis, but by his grace the situation has improved and citizens can easily move around.
From Dima, in the Eurasia and North Africa (ENA) region:
- We praise God for the continued significant reach of our core programmes, particularly in peacebuilding and Environmental and Economic Sustainability (EES), which are serving over 200,000 individuals across the ENA region despite severe and complex operating environments. We are also thankful for the strong, unified commitment shown by our staff.
- We thank God for the many relationships he allowed us to forge this year across Syria, Lebanon and the wider region through Transforming Communities work. We have witnessed churches from different denominations stepping into their calling with renewed unity, purpose and courage. We are deeply grateful for the success of the Transforming Communities pilot, the inspiring articles and testimonies shared by clergy and facilitators, and the opportunity to expand this work into new churches, new regions and new traditions.
- Above all, we thank the Lord for giving us the wisdom, strength and joy to answer his call and participate in his mission walking alongside his church as it brings hope, dignity, peace and restoration to communities in need. We have seen his faithfulness in every step, and we praise him for the privilege of serving his body and people living in poverty across this region.
From Anne, in the South and East Africa (SEA) region:
I am grateful this year for so many things, including my life that was saved through intense prayers by colleagues. While attending a Tearfund gathering in the Philippines, I fell very ill and was hospitalised, but by God’s great and awesome power, I pulled through. I am also grateful for the progress made by staff and partners in the SEA region with building relations with key influencers in their countries, resulting in great demand for Transforming Communities work across different denominations.
We prayed for God’s wisdom for our work in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia and he answered our prayers. We now have very strong relationships with key partners in these countries.
From Idzai, in the South and East Africa region:
Kenya and Zambia: We prayed for greater influence through our Transforming Communities work. We celebrate answered prayers as Kenya and Zambia have surpassed their targets for the number of local churches reached. We thank God for open doors, as the denominations we are engaging with are embracing Transforming Communities as a valuable tool for addressing poverty.
Malawi: We thank God for his favour and answered prayers through the provision of funding to scale up our Environmental and Economic Sustainability work in Malawi. This support will allow endangered plant species to be restored, food security to be improved, savings groups to be formed and communities to become more resilient. We are grateful for this opportunity to expand impact and strengthen community resilience.
We celebrate the conducive environment that was created in Malawi for free, credible and fair national elections. Elections in many African contexts are disruptive, yet we thank God that the elections held in September were peaceful, with very limited disruption and no incidents of violence.
Mozambique: We celebrate the increased recognition and growing networks in Mozambique. We have prayed for open doors and for invitations into key spaces, and we celebrate these answered prayers. Tearfund is now part of several influential networks in the country.
Uganda: We thank God that we continue to see increased impact and scale of work in Kotido, one of the most marginalised and underserved districts in Uganda. We are beginning to witness streams in the desert, as communities engage in livelihoods and agriculture-based projects that have led to increased incomes, improved quality of life and strengthened food security. We also celebrate the growth of the church, as we see a rising movement of Karamojong people who are seeking God earnestly and are hungry and thirsty for a deeper relationship with Christ.
Zimbabwe: After the successful implementation of a gender-justice project, we prayed for additional support, which was approved in October. In the coming year, this funding will enable us to scale up our gender work, ensuring that survivors’ voices are heard, leading to healing and restored relationships, and survivors forming networks and advocating for change to root issues. Additionally, we hope to see the promotion of positive masculinities in targeted communities, men rising up to go against the grain by becoming protectors, friends and loving partners who embrace the biblical equality found in Genesis 1:26–28. Together, these efforts will contribute towards the reduction of sexual and gender-based violence in Zimbabwe.
In our regional weekly meetings, we often pray for the success of the projects we implement. We thank God for answered prayer in communities, including:
- Increased food security.
- An increase in household income and livelihood opportunities.
- Increased crop yields.
- Improved environments.
- A reduction in negative coping mechanisms and in sexual and gender-based violence.
Across Tearfund, we are incredibly thankful to God for his provision, direction and faithfulness throughout 2025!
