A 10-year-boy has pushed the boundaries by completing an amazing fundraising challenge for international aid and development charity Tearfund and raised over £2,500.
Judah Peake, from Macclesfield, set himself a challenge to do 1000 press ups throughout August to raise money for Tearfund. So committed was Judah to the challenge that he even did some press ups when the family reached the summit of Snowdon during a family hike.
The family were at a Christian festival in the summer holidays when they started chatting about ways they could help our global neighbours who are in need. The family started to discuss the Venezuela earthquake and Judah decided he wanted to fundraise for Tearfund.
Judah said: “I chose Tearfund because they are helping people in countries with disasters, conflict and extreme poverty. Our church also works with them and I also wanted to help. I chose to do 1000 push ups because it sounded really really hard, I couldn’t really do them at first but each day as I did more it got slightly easier.
“My football coach also wanted me to get fitter so I thought I could do both at the same time. By the end I felt a real sense of achievement and it was a good challenge to set myself.”
The family who attend Holy Trinity Church in Hurdsfield ensured that their family got behind Judah to support him with cousins helping along the way.
Judah’s dad, Robin, 40, said: “We want to teach the children that not everyone is born with the same privilege and ensure they have an awareness of those in the world who need help. We said to Judah if he hit his target of £1000 pounds then we would double it, he has done absolutely amazing.”
Stuart Lee, Tearfund’s Fundraising and Communications Director, added: “What Judah has achieved over the summer is incredible, it shows such commitment and grit. It is so great to see young people who are passionate about fundraising and also thinking about those people in the world who have less than themselves. I can’t wait to see what challenge Judah takes on next!”
