Speak up and show you care

Your voice matters. At the start of a new year, you can encourage your Member of Parliament (MP) to speak up for justice for our global neighbours through your prayers and actions.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Thank your MP for their public service
  • Commit to praying for them
  • Share what matters to you as a follower of Jesus

When you contact your MP, you may discover that they share your concern and are waiting for constituents like you to give them the mandate to speak up! Find out more about why it’s worth engaging with our MPs.

‘If we want our politicians to speak up then we have to start by speaking or writing to them.’
Jonah Taylor, Humanitarian Policy Advisor, Tearfund

Choose the issue you care about

Each e-card comes with a unique design and pre-filled message which you can edit, encouraging your MP to speak up on an issue you’re passionate about.

Choose one of the following options:

  • Care for creation
  • Poverty and aid cuts
  • Promoting peace

If you're in Scotland or Northern Ireland

We’d also love you to use these pre-written templates to send a physical card to your MSPs and MLAs. You can find your MSPs’ office addresses here or your MLA’s office address here.

Why commit to praying for your MP?

Politics can feel like a dark and divisive space, but we follow the Prince of Peace who brings light into our world.

Paul encourages us to make ‘prayers, intercession and thanksgiving’ (1 Timothy 2:1-2) for authorities because there are many benefits:

  • Our prayers can shift the narrative, speaking hope and life into our political system.
  • MPs face intense challenges, so our commitment to pray can be a comfort and encouragement.
  • We can intercede for people in extreme poverty whose lives are also affected by what happens in the UK.
  • Our prayers not only impact the person or situation we pray for, but often God works in our hearts too.
