Step two: choose your venue

If you’re planning to host an in-person quiz, make sure to get your venue booked as early as possible. If you’d rather host an online quiz, choose which platform you would like to run it on (eg Zoom, Google Meet etc). We recommend using the one you are most familiar with or that’s most popular with your congregation.

The Big Quiz Night is all about community. So, if you’re meeting in-person, why not use the opportunity to have a big meal together? Because the only thing better than a poverty-busting quiz night is a poverty-busting quiz night with delicious food being shared.

Some useful guidance on providing food can be found here.

We’re happy to talk this through with you if that would be helpful. Just email us at teamtearfund@tearfund we’d love to chat!

Step three: gather your team

Behind every great Big Quiz Night there’s a great Big Quiz Night team. Assemble your quiz heroes to help with the techy bits, catering, welcoming, setting up and clearing away.

Step four: decide your running order

We want your quiz to work for you. A full quiz host pack will be provided, including a suggested running order, 11 themes, eight rounds and additional fun rounds. An example quiz host script is also provided, along with the questions and answers to all the rounds.

We also include an inspiring film that you can play on the night. This year, we’ll hear Natalina’s story and learn about the difference your church’s support is making in Uganda. We suggest showing the film just before the mid-quiz break. Check out our fundraising tips page for more info.

Step five: let the world know about your quiz!

The Big Quiz Night is an amazing opportunity to get your community together, so make sure they know all about it.

Once you’re signed up, download the Big Quiz Night posters to advertise your quiz: perhaps share in your group chats or on social media, print and pin them on local noticeboards or have a stack of leaflets at church or your community centre. You could also share with local groups as a way to bring in people from outside your congregation.

Step six: be part of something (even) bigger!

On the night, we will have an online dashboard ready where you’ll be able to tell us how many people are taking part in your quiz. It will also show how many other people are taking part across the country.

Please try to log your numbers by 8:30pm so we can add up all the figures. After 8:30pm, you’ll be able to see the totaliser: the total number of people from all across the UK taking part in the quiz.

We’re aiming for 600 churches to take part – so watch this space!
